Technology has made it easier than ever to connect with the world from the comfort of our lounge. It’s also helped transform us into artists, game players and sofa sporting elites. Having a computer and home entertainment center may be a lot of fun, and sometimes even educational. It’s always advisable to protect your computer and electrical equipment as best you can, and this includes ensuring they are covered under your California insurance.

Home policies generally provide coverage for any of your listed contents up to the value of your contents coverage. There are a few points to remember when it comes to computers and home entertainment however. First of all, standard policies tend to have a cap of $2000 per item, so should you have anything worth over this amount, you’d be advised to take out separate valuable items coverage. Home insurance of course is designed for home contents, so should the laptop you are using be primarily used for work, ideally it should be covered under your business policy.

Finally, remember that it is important to keep your policy up to date. In cases where you have made several expensive purchases since you took out your insurance, it may be worth checking that the amount of insurance you have purchased would be sufficient to cover all of your current possessions in the event of a major disaster. To find out more, be sure to speak to your California insurance agent for advice.
